Today, HarfangLab takes a new step forward: its solution is the first to obtain BSZ certification from Germany’s BSI. This certification comes after HarfangLab’s EDR was already the first to be certified and then qualified by ANSSI in France. What is BSZ (Beschleunigte Sicherheitszertifizierung)?
Cybersecurity certification for digital solutions allows publishers to obtain validation from qualified auditors that their security procedures are in line with the particularly demanding specifications of public institutions.
“The “Beschleunigte Sicherheitszertifizierung” (BSZ) of the BSI is a risk-driven approach to IT-certification. The BSZ includes both a series of conformity and penetration tests, which confirm the product’s conformity with the certification requirements and its resistance to attacks. By certifying IT products, we can identify and remedy any vulnerabilities at an early stage, thereby strengthening IT security,” states a BSI representative.
The BSZ implements the European standard EN 17640 ‘Methodology for fixed-term cybersecurity assessment for ICT products (FiT CEM)’. The certification includes a documentation-based approach, whereby the solution provider must provide information such as the SBOM (Software Build of Material), as well as a technical approach to verify the robustness of the solutions.
A comprehensive technical audit carried out by TÜV and validated by the German BSI
In order to verify the integrity of the EDR and to analyse and test all potential vulnerabilities of the tool, an external technical evaluator, approved by the BSI (TÜV in this case) reviewed the functionalities, development, and update methods, as well as the security procedures, particularly cryptographic procedures, inherent in the HarfangLab agent. At the end of the technical tests, the auditor produces an Evaluation Technical Report (ETR) which is submitted to the BSI for assessment and validation. To obtain certification, all the security criteria established by the BSI must be verified and validated. The certification obtained by HarfangLab therefore indicates that its agent complies with the highest security requirements on the German market.
